Medway schools |
|||
The Medway area possesses a rich cultural and environmental heritage. This is reflected in the variety of attractions that can be found within this area, from historical buildings, dockyards and museums to country parks and countryside sites. Many of these welcome visits from schools and as such offer a fantastic opportunity to bring the curriculum to life.
All sites listed below have facilities for visiting schools as well as experienced staff available to help co-ordinate and lead visiting groups. Many are free for Medway schools (ask for details).
The country parks are available for use by schools and form an excellent resource for studying a variety of environmental topics. Experienced rangers are on hand to co-ordinate and lead visiting school groups and both parks have an established educational programme that reflects the distinct character and landscape of the park. Programmes cater for ages and abilities and tie in with National Curriculum Attainment Targets. Rangers are also happy to cater to the needs of individual schools and groups studying specific topics. Independent school visits (where teachers lead the activities rather than rangers) are welcome.

Bring your class to this fascinating museum which tells the story of the Medway area from the earliest times. An education officer is available to lead groups and lets pupils get even closer to the collections. Relate the work you do at school to the lives of real men and women by giving pupils the opportunity to handle artefacts and assess them as evidence. A wide variety of themed sessions are available for all ages covering many aspects of the curriculum.

This 13th century Templar hall in Strood can provide an exciting resource for studying those important medieval themes of war, religion and daily life. Its small size and safe garden also make it very exciting for younger children looking at Homes or Materials. The education officer can be booked to lead activities at the site.
